The Ken Jewish Community, a 25-year old institution, serves as a social community for Latin Jews who reside in San Diego County. It is the place where Latin Jewish families find friends for life who share their beliefs, values and traditions. Through a wide range of educational, leadership, social, performing arts, and sports programs and activities, Ken members strengthen their Jewish identify, build a connection with Israel and maintain their Latin culture.
Executive Director
Position Overview
Ken Jewish Community is seeking an Executive Director to provide overall leadership, position the organization as an important social institution in the San Diego community, guide the organization to a higher level of programming, and generate new sources of revenue. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the organization’s objectives are mission-driven, clear, attainable, achieved and evaluated. The Executive Director will work with staff and lay leadership to develop funding sources to cover the Ken’s operational and programmatic expenses of approximately $450,000 per year and to prepare the organization for long-term growth.
The Executive Director will report to the President of the Board of Directors and have primary responsibility for supervising five staff positions (Head of Programming, Administrative Assistants (2), Marketing Coordinator, Event Coordinator) and volunteers.
Responsibilities
- Formalize the organization’s policies and procedures, including the development of bylaws for the Board of Directors
- Ensure that the Board of Directors is supported by the staff and report monthly to the Board on significant activities. In conjunction with the Board, initiate and support directives and policies
- Recommend and implement marketing programs and initiatives to promote awareness of the organization. Oversee the design, content, production and use of all promotional and fundraising materials
- Research, identify, solicit and cultivate foundation, corporate and individual donors. Prepare funding proposals. Track and analyze fundraising results
- Work with and foster Board relations, including assistance with the recruitment of new Board members
- With the Board and staff, create and implement the organization’s long-term strategic plan
- Develop an annual budget for review and approval by the Board. Ensure that expenditures are within budget and prepare budget revisions, as needed. Monitor and review monthly statements for submission to the Board of Directors
- Serve as liaison to other community institutions and organizations. Develop a network of support and resource people
- Plan and manage donor outreach efforts; tracking systems for pledges, gifts and grants, as well as donor acknowledgement and recognition programs. Organize donor recognition events
- Coordinate management, support and supervision of volunteers. Design and participate in training to build volunteer capabilities
- In collaboration with the Board, recruit, interview and train all staff. Directly supervise and coordinate the activities of the staff. Oversee the implementation of the organization’s personnel policies
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; Masters in Business Administration a plus

A minimum of 5 years administrative experience in a related field

Demonstrated excellence in leadership in areas defined by job responsibilities

Ability to work independently with little direction

Strong oral and written communications skills; ability to speak effectively and persuasively to groups

Experience formulating policy and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures

Demonstration of initiative, creativity, flexibility and follow-through

Ability to develop financial plans and manage resources

Knowledge of budget preparation and control

Strong computer skills with working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook

Comprehension of Spanish language or willingness to learn Spanish
